HK USP 45

This is one of the TANKS of the 45 ACP World. The pistols are built tough, have a very well designed recoil spring system and offer factory standard magazine capacities of 10 or 12 rounds.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAThe standard frame color is black. However, HK did produce frames in Grey, OD Green and Coyote Tan

The full size USP 45 is capable of firing 45 ACP, 45 ACP+P and 45 SUPER with no changes to the Firearm. I have no idea what the life expectancy of a USP 45 is, but I can tell you it will be up there.

Being a 45 SUPER fan, I was very pleased to find such a stoutly built auto loader.

The one drawback to the HK DA/SA trigger system is that if feels mushy (for lack of a better word). It certainly is not a target grade trigger and it is not easily altered. This firearm is built for combat as it leaves the factory.

Another interesting thing I noticed is that the HK magazine bodies and the ParaOrdnace magazine bodies are almost exactly the same size even though the ParaOrdnance mags hold two morre rounds. . . Interesting

Upon disassembly, I found that the HK followers had very long legs that prevented them from traveling all the way down the magazine. Changing out the follower for one of the ParaOrdnabce followers yielded an increase in one round. ParaOrdnance has different styles of follower so I found one that turned the HK magazines into 14 rounders, I also found a 14 round follower that would not work correctly part of the time. If you convert your magazines, be sure to do complete testing for reliability before using them for carry.

After using more than a dozen different styles of FMJ and premium defensive hollow point ammunition I found that the HK like them all.

The full size USPs that I worked with all delivered very good accuracy from any of the factory loads that I tried.

The Boberg XR9-S is now the Bond Arms Bullpup

As some of you already know, I am a fan of the Boberg pistols that Arne Boberg has been working on for the last decade and were brought to market 5+ years ago

Prior to last year’s SHOT Show, Bond Arms, the Big Texas Derringer manufacturer, bought the whole kit and caboodle from Boberg

At this year’s SHOT Show we have the first Bond Arms produced Bullpup pistols on display alongside Bond Arms famous derringers

The folks at Bond Arms have made some changes. All for the better.

The major improvement is that the barrel and unlock block are both now coated with a high lubricity plating. This eliminates the need for putting a dab of anti seize compound where these two parts mate.

If you have ever handled anti seize you already know what a messy task this is.

Another cool change is the rosewood grips and optional G10 grips. These are much better looking than the plastic grips that shipped with the Bobergs. You can even get matching baseplates for the magazines if you like.

Bond Arms first release is the short barreled 9MM variant. Now when I say short barrel, it is still 3.35″ long. That is longer than most all Sub-compact on the market and rival the barrel length of the compact pistols.

That is all thanks to the “Bullpup” design. For those that have not seen one yet, the barrel sits ABOVE the magazine and the cartridges are pulled backwards when feeding.

Bond Arms has recently completed assembly and testing of the remaining Boberg marked pistols and will shortly be offering them for sale to the public.

If you already own a Boberg, Bond Arms is your source for all the things you are going to need. Magazines, grips, recoil springs are or will be available so no need to worry.

This is a very unique design not to mention a finely machined, assembled and fitted firearm. The Bond Arms Bullpups that I have handled exhibit the same high quality feel or their predecessors. I look forward to the future releases as well.

HK SMGs in colors?

I have to say that the two colored SMGs in the HK booth did catch my eye.

I thought that it was interesting that the MP5 was fitted with the 4 position fire control group and a rail front end

SPECTRUM from Taurus

Taurus has introduced a tiny new auto-loader call the Spectrum

They chose this name because it can be made in many colors, about two dozen are currently offered.

The factory has about 6 standard color combination cataloged. Distributors can order color combinations that would be exclusive offerings from them.

I have not shot this one yet, but I plan to in the future.

Military and Police 2.0

As many of you know, Smith and Wesson has introduced a 2.0 version of the M&P autoloading pistols. The new versions of the firearms were displayed in all their grandeur

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

The two most obvious and talked about changes are the lock work and the grip treatment.

The triggers on the few I tried were quite acceptable. I discussed parts interchangeability with the Factory Gurus. Unfortunately while most of the parts of the new 2.0 M&P will interchange with the original variation, the lock work components are not among them.

As to the grip treatment, I am not a fan. I know that many folks think the original M&P was too smooth, but to me the 2.0 feels like someone glued 160 grit sand paper to the firearm.
