Solid Copper Hollow Points

I recently acquired a small quantity of 160 grain Hollow Points made from solid copper.

These are from a major manufacturer that is not yet offering them as components. Technically they were blems, in this case due to significant discoloration.

As you can see after some time in a RCBS vibratory case cleaner they now look presentable

Actually, these are very pretty in person

I will be working up loads for these projectiles in both 45 ACP +P and 45 SUPER ranges over the next several months. Once complete, I will follow up with some opinions as well as real world velocities obtained from various firearms.

HK USP45CT and the Osprey 45 Supressor

I have recently gotten my hands on one of the HK USP 45 Compact Tactical pistols. These are small 8+1 round 45 ACP auto loaders that are setup from the factory with a threaded barrel for suppressor use.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAWhile these are not tiny pistols, they are significantly smaller than the full size USP 45 platforms. The firearm is pictured above with the compact base plate on the magazine, a thread protector installed and the standard HK compact (bobbed) hammer. Below the pistol has one of the finger rest floor plates installed.

I prefer the finger rest version as it just feels better in my hand.

This particular firearm, and the HK45c that shares it’s magazine design, has a 10 shot extended magazine available. It has licked up the name Elephant Foot. I will add a picture at a later date.

This is another accurate offering from the good folks at HK. This example is a DA/SA but like the entire USP family the action can be converted to one of more than half a dozen variations by an HK armorer in about 30 minutes just by changing a detent plate and control lever

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I admit it looks a bit disproportionate with the compact USP and a full size suppressor, however this is a very quiet and hearing safe combination.

I really like the offset manner in which the Osprey suppressors work. The sights are not blocked and the overall appearance is rather sleek

Marlin 1894 45LC Take Down conversion

It was several years ago when that Gun Shop in Alaska started converting the Marlin 1894 lever guns into take down rifles and carbines.

Since that day, that Alaskan shop has taught it’s conversion techniques to several gunsmiths around the Country. Included among them are the good folks at Green Swamp Tactical in Central FloridaOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

After the firearm is disassembled a stainless steel block is fabricated to match the shape of the receiver. The forend is shortened to accommodate this new piece. The barrel and magazine tube will run through the piece and there is a ball detent that holds the receiver against the new mating block when the barrel assembly is screwed down against the receiver assembly.

Once the two pieces are mated up, the magazine tube cam be slid into the receiver creating another point to prevent the parts from accidentally or even purposefully being separated.

There is another detent in the magazine tube right at the barrel band that keeps the tube from moving back and forth

Once all of the parts have been fabricated and the proper functioning of the firearm has been tested it is time to put a new finish on all the parts that had been converted and fabricated.

In this case the rifle was ceracoated in black

The finished product works as expected when assembled, packs down into a small case for travel and looks good to boot.

Heritage series Model 25 Smith and Wesson

Lew Horton has been known to commission some very nice Distributor Exclusive Offerings from Smith and Wesson as well as some from the other manufacturers

The Heritage series began right at the turn of the century, but to look at the styling you might ask Which Century?

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

The revolver pictured was manufactured in 2001 and is chambered in 45 LC, It was manufactured in the Smith and Wesson Performance Center. While it has a nostalgic old world look, it is a marvel of modern CNC manufacturing.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

These were produced on a round butt 4 screw frame. Before the collecting purists tell me it is the wrong 4 screws, I know. However it is not an old firearm, it is Modern and it brings a new set of rules to the table.

I am very fond of the Gold McGivern style front bead sight. Combined with the modern Smith and Wesson micrometer adjustable rear sight it provides for a good sight picture.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

The action of my sample is smooth but not quite as light as I normally like. That is probably at the urging of the Legal Staff. I can put up with it and eventually I would have an action job performed.

Accuracy is great on this one. The round butt grips are small for my hands and some target stocks would be nice, or perhaps a Tyler T-grip would be more period correct.

The Heritage series were produced for several years starting in 2001 and continuing on through the sale of Smith and Wesson to Saf-T-Hammer. These revolvers were shipped in old replica style gold boxes. The Models 10, 15, 17, 24, 25 and 29 were all produced. The finishes were blue, nickel and color case hardened. Not all models were offered in all finishes. I am fairly certain that the production was 150 or 200 pieces depending on the model, so not a lot of these are around

Modern accuracy, fit and finish with old world charm . . . What’s not to like?

Outages

Sorry for the various error messages and improperly formatted pages that have been occurring over the past 3 or 4 weeks.

It appears that all of the hardware/software issues have been resolved.

It is still uncertain if we will be able to restore the content that was added this Spring and Summer. We are still trying to find a backup that does not have problems.

in the meantime I am going to re-address many of the missing topics
