LET FREEDOM RING

Just a few short days from now, America will celebrate it’s “INDEPENDENCE DAY”

It has been 87,288 days since the thirteen tiny British Colonies in America told King George that we are not going to take it any more.

We are tired of being taxed to our limits, we are tired of being told how to practice our religious beliefs, we are tired of being told where we can assemble and what we can discuss, we are tired of a single man telling us how to live our lives when the masses are against most everything he is doing.

On July 4th, 239 years ago, all 56 representatives of the Colonies, unanimously signed a document that would change the world as people knew it.

This weekend enjoy your hot dogs and hamburgers. Ooh and Aah over the fireworks displays, cheer and clap at the parades but keep in mind what those 56 men did for you more than two Centuries ago.

Can you imagine the kind of dedication to ones fellow man these farmers, storekeepers, blacksmiths and who knows what else had. Their lives were certainly put in immediate danger just signing the Declaration but they understood the bigger picture and knew that nothing worth having ever comes without sacrifice.

In their shoes, could you have done the same?

So please don’t just jump in the pool with the kids, eat the food and watch the “Rockets Bursting in Air”

Take time and make sure your kids understand why this is such a HUGE day for not only Americans, but everyone around the globe who has benefited from the Love and Generosity of the Greatest Nation the World has ever known.

Magnetospeed Chronograph

The Magnetospeed folks have been around for a while. I only recently acquired one of their chronographs for testing and evaluation purposes.

Unlike traditional chronographs that require screens to be placed 5 or 10 feet from the muzzle that watch for the shadow of the bullet to pass over a photo sensor, the Magnetospeed product uses electromagnetic sensors to detect the projectile.

Initially, there are some great advantages to this. Light is not an issue. With one of my chronographs, I carry a set of IR lights for use at indoor ranges. That means remembering to keep batteries charged

Magnetospeed bayonet

The Magnetospeed bayonet attaches to the barrel of the firearm. Since the sensors do not use light, muzzle blast and flash do not affect them.

So far I have only begun to experience this product. I used a few suppressed 9MM and 22 pistols in the back yard.

The Magnetospeed records the shot strings on a micro SD card in a CSV file so this is easily transferred into a computer. The card can hold hundreds of strings. The control head also has a nice multi line display that shows you the data live.

Once I get out to the range, I am going to really put the Magnetospeed through a workout. Watch for a future update and pictures.

Barnes 10MM Auto ammunition has arrived

Yesterday I received a nice package from the good folks at Barnes Ammunition. This is their new 10MM Auto offering.

It is a 155 grain TAC-XP HP. This is a Total Copper Projectile. The claimed muzzle velocity is 1150.

These Barnes projectiles have been available to the handloading and commercial loading markets for some time now. Many of you are familiar with the Total Copper construction and the extremely large and deep hollow points. MANY companies use the Barnes projectiles in their ammunition offerings. Now Barnes themselves is offering loaded ammunition to the shooting public.

I will be funcion firing this load in a variety of 10MM Auto pistols over the next few weeks, Once I have free time to get out to the field, I will chronograph the ammunition in several firearms. Look for a follow up as soon as I can.

I know, I am excited about NEW 10MM Auto ammunition as well 🙂

Constitution 1 – Eric Holder 0

Will the Gun Control Act of 1968 stand the test of time?

It does not look like it. The 47 year old piece of legislation had the first brick kicked out of it’s wall that restricts and forbids Law Abiding AMERICANs from making Legal transactions

Some of you may be aware of a case that has been ongoing in Federal Court over in Ft. Worth Texas. Mance vs. Holder takes the stance that forbidding citizens to purchase handguns in non-resident states violates our Constitutional Rights.

Section 922 of the Gun Control Act of 1968  states that “individuals can only purchase out-of-state firearms when the guns have been transferred to an in-state federal dealer, with the exception of rifles and shotguns.”

“It is bizarre and irrational to destroy the national market for an item that Americans have a fundamental right to purchase,” Alan Gura, attorney for the plaintiffs, observed. “Americans would never tolerate a ban on the interstate sale of books or contraceptives. And Americans are free to buy rifles and shotguns outside their state of residence, so long as the dealers respect the laws of the buyer’s home state. We’re gratified that the Court agreed that handguns should be treated no differently.”

On Wednesday, February 11th, Eric Holder LOST

Here is what U.S. District Court Judge Reed O’Connor’s wrote on Wednesday February 11th “The federal interstate handgun transfer ban is unique compared to other firearms restrictions because it does not target certain people (such as felons or the mentally ill), conduct (such as carrying firearms into government buildings or schools), or distinctions among certain classes of firearms (such as fully automatic weapons or magazine capacity). Instead, the federal interstate handgun transfer ban targets the entire national market of handgun sales and directly burdens law-abiding, responsible citizens who seek to complete otherwise lawful transactions for handguns.”The court ruled that the government failed to show how this ban “alleviates, in a material way, the problem of prohibited persons obtaining handguns” by traveling to another state and found the law unconstitutional on Second and Fifth Amendment grounds.

While this is a great step to unburdening he law abiding firearms owner from Draconian restrictions, we still have a long way to go. Obviously Eric Holder will appeal this ruling. It may take years before there is a final resolution.

However this is just another of many Pro 2nd Amendment rulings in the last 5-10 years. The knee jerk reactions toward events that led to the Gun Control Act of 1968 have been forgotten by the Voting Public and the National Opinion is returning to where it should be . . . .
